WHY STORYBOOK?

At first I didn't know what to call it, but I had stumbled upon something extra special using some fancy outdoor studio lighting techniques, and couldn't get past how these images made me feel deep down. It was almost as if they were calling to something long ago from my childhood, something I could never quite put a finger on, and yet I felt it deep in my bones nonetheless. Perhaps you can relate.

Truth be told, while I often employ similar outdoor studio lighting techniques in my maternity and senior portrait sessions from time to time, there is something about this particular shooting and editing style displayed here that always seems to draw my eye in a slightly different way than the rest. Especially when mixed with a beautiful natural setting outdoors somewhere, it's almost as if these images take on an almost storybook quality to them, and connects with those deeper parts of our hearts that make us feel like we can dream again, and lean into that space all the more.

And beyond my wonderful times with graduating seniors and expectant mothers, I wanted to offer a way for more clients to access these types of sessions even if you don't quite know what category you fit into based on your current needs, and yet enjoy this style of imagery nonetheless.

Thus my Storybook Sessions were created.

THE STORY BEHIND STORYBOOK SESSIONS

Granted, it wasn't called "Storybook" at the beginning. Years ago, when I was still earlier in my journey of learning how to use studio lighting outdoors, some dear friends had a beautiful front yard featuring a large tree with a swing. I was always inspired by the childlike innocence of it every time I drove past, and wondered what it would be like to create some photos that magnified the magic of that scene. With the kind help of their daughter, Ivy, and the unplanned assistance of their goofy dog, Luigi, I soon found myself creating some of the most touching and magical photos I've ever had the privilege of capturing, including the one that has been the centerpiece of my message and branding over the years....

"One Touch"...One touch of nature makes the whole world kin. (William Shakespeare)
